The delegates from PRAWA and Nigerian Prison Service who were earlier trained in Abuja trains the trainers of Nigeria prison service; Enugu Human rights desk officers, on human rights and good prison practice under the Human Rights Training Integration Project [HRTI] managed by PRAWA on Wednesday October 10, 2012. The staff and officers trained are from Orji River, Nsukka, Enugu, Ibitolo Prisons and the Prison Training School Enugu.
Declaring the training open, the Controller of Prisons, Enugu State; Elder Chris Ntewo urged the participants to utilize the knowledge to train more Nigerian Prisons’ Staff on the Human Rights and the implications of its neglect in modern prisons and correctional practice.
The Controller of Prison pledged maximum support to all participants who will want to carry the message of Human Rights further to all ranks and file of Nigerian Prisons adding that they will also be supported to arrange further training within.
Elder Ntewo presented the posters, car bumper stickers and others Information, Enlightenment and Communication (IEC) materials of HRTI Project.
The Enugu training was another expected output of the project as conceived and designed. The Enugu delegates drawn from Nigerian Prisons Services and PRAWA Enugu Office who were trained at the Abuja HRTI train the trainers’ workshop arranged the second tier of train of trainers for Human Right Officers in all prison formations in Enugu State.
A total of fifteen men and women from Welfare, Administration and Operation departments of Enugu, Nsukka, Oji, Ibitolo Prisons, Prison Training School Enugu and NPS Headquarters were trained.
