On 24 September 2012, the Swiss Embassy and PRAWA held a Human Rights workshop for members of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) at the Embassy’s Office located on Wuse 2, Abuja. The workshop stemmed from another PRAWA project titled: The Police and Human Rights Project, implemented between 2009 and 2011 with the sponsorship of the Swiss Embassy.
The project aimed at reviewing and integrating human rights into the NPF Training curriculum and the workshop created a platform for the second phase of the project, which involves developing a manual for Human Rights Education in NPF Training Schools and Colleges.
Due to PRAWA’s experience in developing teaching manuals and methodology, the workshop was organized to facilitate the development of a User-friendly Human Rights Education Manual for Police Training Colleges. As a result of this, members of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) present at the workshop were given the opportunity to express their views on what they expect from such manual.
Through the workshop, the organizers also identified persons within the NPF who will be part of the manual development process and collected information from the NPF in order to ensure the alignment of the manual contents with the NPF’s approach to staff education.
